Marten Law Expands to Mountain West
Marten Law is pleased to announce it has opened offices in the Mountain West, with locations in Boise, ID and Twin Falls, ID. With the addition of these offices, the firm now has six locations across the country, including: Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Washington, DC; Boston, MA; Boise, ID; and Twin Falls, ID. The firm now has almost 20 lawyers practicing exclusively environmental and energy law and has grown to be one of the largest practices in its field in the West.
Albert Barker is an experienced and much sought-after litigator, representing clients in disputes having to do with water rights and water quality, environmental and natural resources, mining, food production, and commercial litigation. He has counseled clients in water rights and right-of-way litigation, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, NEPA, Superfund and other environmental litigation. He has helped obtain FERC licenses, water rights and water quality certifications for many hydroelectric projects, including the Lucky Peak and Arrowrock Hydroelectric Projects and low head hydroelectric projects in Idaho and projects in other Western states. He also represents insurers in environmental insurance coverage matters. Albert is also a long-serving member of the Idaho Water Resources Board, now in his third term.
John Simpson is recognized as one of the leading water rights lawyers in the Mountain West. He has been instrumental in assisting clients in litigation and administrative proceedings concerning conjunctive administration of ground and surface water, Endangered Species Act, remediation of ground and surface water, adjudication of Native American water rights issues, water right transactions and power generating facilities. He has served as a member of the National Water Resources Association's Policy Development Committee since 2001, and in 2010 was appointed by the Governor of the State of Idaho as a representative to the Western States Water Council. John was invited by Governor Little to participate in the Governor’s Salmon Task Force. He is also one of Idaho Water User Association’s representatives for the Columbia Basin Collaborative.
Travis Thompson represents individual water users, canal companies, municipal providers, and irrigation districts throughout Idaho. With over 20 years’ experience, Travis has handled all aspects of water rights permitting, adjudication, and administration. Travis also counsels clients on general business, small hydroelectric projects, and real property matters and related litigation. He regularly appears before Idaho’s adjudication courts and the Idaho Department of Water Resources, and has also advised on a variety of water rights sale and lease transactions. Travis has successfully represented local canal companies and irrigation districts before the Idaho Supreme Court, securing important decisions protecting senior water rights interests.
