Meline G. MacCurdy
Meline’s practice focuses on environmental litigation, as well as environmental permitting and review of facilities in the Pacific Northwest. She has particular experience with state and federal cleanup laws, including brownfield redevelopment and cost-recovery actions falling under MTCA and CERCLA, the Clean Water Act, and emerging issues involving climate change and energy.
Meline earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Cornell Law School where she served as the General Editor of the International Law Journal. She received her Bachelor’s Degree, summa cum laude, from Colgate University. Prior to joining the Marten Law Group, she served as a legal intern for the Natural Resources Defense Council in New York.
Representative Cases Include:
- Assisting in the representation of a municipality facing a multi-million dollar cleanup of a formerly owned contaminated landfill. Developed a comprehensive solution for client that included pursuing other parties with potential liability for the contamination and applying for remedial action grants from the Washington Department of Ecology under the Model Toxics Control Act.
- Assisting a commercial client in developing the most cost-effective method for a Brownfield Redevelopment. Hired consultants to conduct an assessment and performed related litigation with former owner of property to determine an estimated cost of cleanup for the Brownfield site in Seattle, Washington.
- Assisting in the representation of New Mexico local governments that are conducting a CERCLA Superfund site cleanup. The site is on the national priorities list for uncontrolled hazardous waste sites because of a PCE plume that had contaminated the groundwater.
- Representing a commercial cast-parts facility that has evidence of contamination. Conducting initial investigations, negotiating with state regulators, and developing a cost recovery plan for hazardous waste claims of PCE and TCE related to historical use of facility.
