Alyssa has experience as a litigator and with environmental regulatory programs. She represents clients in disputes arising under the Clean Water Act, state and federal environmental review statutes, and the state and federal Superfund laws. She also is developing a practice advising clients regarding renewable energy siting, greenhouse gas mitigation and reporting, and other aspects of climate change regulation.

Alyssa earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Washington School of Law, where she served on the Editorial Board of the Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal and worked at the Environmental Law Clinic. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fields of international relations, environmental science and African studies. Prior to joining the Marten Law, Alyssa was a law clerk to the Honorable Marlin J. Appelwick, Washington State Court of Appeals, Division 1.

Representative Experience

  • Assisting a former landfill owner in the cleanup of a wood-waste landfill being conducted under the Washington Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA). Alyssa has identified potentially liable parties and is pursuing MTCA contribution claims against them.
  • Assisted in the representation of a property owner seeking cost recovery under MTCA for the migration of pollutants onto its property.
  • Assisted a composting company with a wetland mitigation permitting project. Alyssa is also assisting the company to site a methane digester as a source of renewable energy;
  • Advised a biofuel distributor regarding regulatory compliance with spill and containment laws.
  • Assisting a client with remediation of a former dry-cleaning facility.
  • Represented a international marine construction company’ in EPA’s proposed vessel discharge program under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System.
  • Assisted a municipal client with a multi-million dollar cleanup of a former landfill, now on the Superfund site list
